In the dog house: Saks Fifth Avenue orders gourmet pet food company Snaks 5th Avenchew to change its name

Sorry, pal! Ms Sarabella's dog Pinero poses with a box of Snaks 5th Avenchew treats. Saks Fifth Avenue is demanding the treats maker change her name

Luxury retailer Saks Fifth Avenue has demanded gourmet pet food maker Snaks 5th Avenchew come up with a new name.

The company's owner, Carrie Sarabella, who lives in Hoboken, New Jersey, received a cease and desist letter on July 30 from the chain, according to the New York Daily News.

In the letter, Ms Sarabella, 32, was given until this past Wednesday to stop using the name - and she has refused.

'I feel that I’m entitled to use the name with at least a little bit of a fight,' she said to the newspaper on Wednesday. 'What happens after today, I don’t know.'

Ms Sarabella pointed to other companies with pun-based monikers - Bloomingtails, Sniffany & Co and Chewy Vuitton - that are operating without issue.

She chose to name her company Snaks 5th Avenchew because she's a longtime shopper at the store.

In an interview with Reuters, she said, 'I knew that Saks was able to offer me the best of what I was looking for, and I wanted to do the same thing with pets. It was almost as if I was honoring and complimenting what they always gave to me, but unfortunately they don't feel the same way.'

Ms Sarabella launched Snaks 5th Avenchew in April. The company makes gourmet treats for horses and dogs using all-natural, organic ingredients.

The business's offerings further reflect the owner's love for puns: Puptato Chips, Mini Pupcakes, and Birth-Neigh Cake, to name a few.
