Famed Department Store Sends Warning To Dog Treat Company

By Aaron Smith

Famed department store Saks Fifth Avenue has warned a company called Snaks 5th Avenchew to back off.

Snaks 5th Avenchew, a purveyor of organic gourmet pet treats, has received a cease and desist order accusing it of infringing on the retailer’s name, according to Snaks owner Carrie Sarabella.

Sarabella wouldn’t say whether she plans to change the name of her company, an online retailer that makes baked goods for dogs and horses.

A spokeswoman for Saks Fifth Avenue, which is owned by Hudson’s Bay Company, wouldn’t say whether the retailer plans to sue Snaks.

Meanwhile, Snaks is still selling pet treats online. Horse snacks include the Birth-Neigh Cake for $35, which comes in apple caramel and carrot cinnamon, and Pony Poppers, which look like doughnut holes, available in batches of 50 for $27.

Dog treats include the B-Ruff-Day Cake for $30, which comes in peanut butter, red velvet, banana or carob. There are also Mini PupCakes, for $15 a dozen, Pup Tarts for $2.50 apiece and Puptato Chips for $5 a bag.
